Think about it: Should a construction worker and a secretary eat the same diet? What about a young woman in her 20s and a man in his 60s? Should they both eat the same high-protein diet, or the same blood type diet, even if they both have "O" blood? Of course not. That would not be practical. What about the place a person lives? Should a person who lives in India eat the same diet as someone who lives, say, in Sweden? Can a person who lives in Italy be happy on a Russian diet, or a Russian on an Italian diet? I don't think so. What about the season? Does your body want the same foods in winter as it does during the summer? No. How about the day of the week? Don't you eat differently on Saturday night than you do on Tuesday night? Most people do. If all of these variables matter, then how can we create one diet that will address everyone's dietary needs? We can't. No one can create a diet to fit all environments, all lifestyles, all sizes, shapes, and sexes, all ethnic and racial backgrounds, all ages and circumstances. It isn't possible. You can adopt the latest fad diet with all the discipline and good intentions you can muster, but sooner or later you won't be able to follow it, because your body is going to rebel. That's the primary reason why diets fail. Something inside you rises up and insists that your current way of eating isn't supporting your biological and psychological needs. The longer you stay on it, the more tense your body becomes. Pretty soon, you start craving foods that you feel will relieve you of your tension and restore balance to your condition. Maybe you fight those cravings for awhile, but eventually you give in. And then you find that you're no longer practicing your diet. Like the squirrels, deer, coyotes, and bears, an innate wisdom lives in your cells. You can fight that wisdom, but sooner or later it emerges to tell you that what you'd really like to eat is a big salad or a plate of pasta or a big apple....
